What is cartage?

Cartage is moving containers or cargo between ports, depots, warehouses, factories and clients. Ours is the local leg: from OR Tambo, the City Deep terminal and the unpack depots to your door, in the vehicle that suits the load.

Can you collect on the last free day?

Yes. We handle late customs releases and last-free-day pressure. Our local fleet works close to the airports and the customs-licensed depots, so we can respond at short notice, and at City Deep we can work extended hours to draw containers. Send the release as soon as you have it.

Which vehicle will you send?

It depends on the load. Pallets and loose cargo go on one of our 75 local vehicles, from flat-deck rigids to fully enclosed vans. Airfreight goes in closed-body pantechs with roller decks. Full containers go on our truck-and-trailer combinations. The cartage check above shows which suits yours.

We don’t have a forklift. Can you still deliver?

Yes. Our tail-lift trucks deliver deck to ground, with an extra crew member and a pallet jack to move the cargo where you need it. For a full container, our side loaders can put it on the ground for you to unpack.

See Container Side Loader

Do you collect airfreight from OR Tambo?

Yes. We deploy vehicles to collect time-sensitive airfreight, and our equipment often waits in the airport precinct for the flight and the clearance. Our crews check the shipment is properly quantified before taking custody, and our roller-deck pantechs take airfreight containers to licensed degroup facilities.

Read the airfreight cartage guide

Do you move containers from City Deep?

Yes. We’re one of the operators with port permits for the City Deep inland terminal, with more than 50 truck-and-trailer combinations in local container haulage, and we can work extended hours to draw your containers.

See FCL Transporters

How will I know where my cargo is?

We follow every status change from your instruction to final delivery and send updates by SAP-based push-to-email. A service advisor is your single point of contact, and our 24-hour control centre tracks the vehicles in real time.

Can you handle high-value cargo?

Yes. High-value cargo goes in enclosed vans with specially trained delivery crews, and where values are high we can deploy our own covert escort crews.

Can you move cargo that’s still in bond?

Yes. We’re a licensed remover of goods in bond, with a road bond guarantee lodged with customs, so we can move uncleared cargo between customs-controlled places, such as a customs-stopped container to a depot for examination.

How much does it cost?

Every load is different, so we don’t publish prices. Answer the seven short questions in the quote form, add the cartage check if you like, and our team calls you with a price.
